Euro NCAP reveals latest crash data
The Picanto was criticized for not having electronic stability control (ESC) fitted as standard across the range. However, Kia said that all UK-specification Picantos are fitted with ESC, a features tat Kia was confident that it would have given them a higher rating.
The Hyundai i40, Volkswagen Jetta and the Gold Cabriolet all scored highly on child occupant protection, but many cars scored below five stars on pedestrian protection. Euro NCAP said the Ampera, Audi A6 and the Citroen DS5 only just met its 2011 pedestrian requirements for a five-star rating but none would meet the more stringent five-star requirements coming into effect in 2012.
it added that a few car makers had already “stepped up” and shown much higher pedestrian scores, citing the Ford Focus as an example.
Despite this, Euro NCAP is seeing advanced safety systems being offered to consumers on a greater range of models.
