Winter Driving

The clocks have just gone back and many of us will sadly now be travelling home in the dark. During the autumn and winter there is always an increase in road accidents and driving conditions can quickly change so here are a few tips to help you stay safe on the roads...

  • Allow extra time for your journey
  • Ensure that your vehicle is prepared; clean, working lights, windows and mirrors
  • Watch your speed and leave plenty of room, depth perception and breaking distances can be misleading after dark
  • On snow and ice just do everything very slowly because you can lose control very quickly.
  • Check all tyres for condition, pressure and tread depth, 3mm of tread is recommended.
  • Now it starts to get very cold a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water in the cooling system is needed. This gives maximum protection down to -34° centigrade. Without it you may suffer engine damage costing hundreds of pounds to rectify

Even if you are prepared, other drivers around you may not be, so drive safe.
