Mini Concepts

Both of the new Mini models were unveilled at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September and we have to say that they have our pulse racing...

The Mini Coupé Concept brings together all the most desirable features for a truly sporting and ambitious motoring style. Limited to just two seats it maintains compact dimensions in keeping with the family, perfect axle load distribution and a low centre of gravity offer ideal conditions for enhancing the already impressive agility Mini are known for.

Alongside the eagerly anticipated Coupé Concept we were delighted to view footage of the Roadster. Again designed for two, one big advantage is the larger boot space. A lockable pass-through even allows your passenger to reach through to items stowed in the boot. Drivers are presented with a multi-function display with five brand new indicators: the Nature Guard (how 'green' you're driving), Highspeed Shifter (when to shift  gear for maximum power), Gravity Indicator (lateral and g-forces), Heart Beat (engine speed visualized by beating heart) and Buddy Radar (shows where other Mini drivers are).

All of this was very welcome news to the British motor industry when it was announced at the end of the summer that plans are to build it's two new models at their Oxfordshire plant. The move saves almost 4,000 jobs in addition to generating. BMW has not said exactly how many extra workers will be needed to make the new models, but they are looking in the region of 1,000 positions of employment in the area. It demonstrates the long-term commitment from BMW to the UK as it celebrates its 50th birthday this year.

British drivers have always had a love affair with Mini and long may it continue!
